Reporting to you from Cochabamba, Bolivia.
📍 Cochabamba (Bolivia) 🇧🇴
We are continuing to advance our project in Bolivia, working alongside IPI Coop and the local NGO EIFODEC. 🤝
🌞 In the mornings, we continue to deliver the training course "Comprehensive Approach to Neurodevelopmental Disorders: A Physiotherapy Perspective" at the Universidad Mayor de San Simón in Cochabamba. It is a space for learning, knowledge exchange, and capacity building aimed at further improving care for children.
🏥 In the afternoons, we continue visiting various institutions and services to gain firsthand insight into the reality in Bolivia. These visits allow us to understand how children with disabilities access different levels of care, identify their needs, and learn about the challenges faced by families and professionals.
📅 On Friday, July 17, we had the opportunity to participate in the Disability Fair organized by EIFODEC. This event brought together various centers, institutions, and services to provide information and guidance, and to answer questions from Cochabamba families regarding available resources for children with disabilities.
🏥 On Monday, July 20, we visited the Alalay Health Center—a primary care facility—where the medical team and their physiotherapist, Ángela, shared the challenges they face regarding the early detection of and intervention for neurodevelopmental disorders.
👩⚕️ On Tuesday, we visited the Hospital del Norte, a secondary-level care facility. There, Nayra Ocampo, a physiotherapist with the department, explained how they are treating an increasing number of children with neurological conditions, thereby expanding care services that were traditionally focused on traumatology and orthopedics.
👨👩👧👦 On Wednesday, July 22, we held a workshop for families at EIFODEC, where we shared experiences with the mothers, fathers, and caregivers of children with disabilities who attend the center. It was a particularly enriching and moving gathering. Beyond cultural differences, available resources, or the distance separating us, we saw that concerns, fears, hopes, and love for their children are universal feelings. 💚
✨ Cooperation is also about listening, learning, and building together. Every visit, conversation, and shared experience helps us better understand the local reality and continue growing both as professionals and as individuals.
📲 We will keep you updated on how these final days of training and volunteering in Cochabamba unfold.
